Oh, Hello 2017. Nice to Meet You.

Like most people, I had grand plans for the first week of the new year: get up early with Hubs and study, fit in plans to see some friends, and work on my portfolio. Monday, since Hubs was off of work, we lazed around the house all day. We did make it to the dog park for a little fun, but that was the extent of it. It was really nice to spend Monday night cooking dinner, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and pulling out the sewing machine. I swear I’m not becoming my mother…

One of my actual New Year’s resolutions is to get back to creating things. I miss spending so much time painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, coloring, and making. Monday night I made these super easy breastfeeding covers for a good friend who just had a baby boy. They were, by no means, a “professional” grade, but they were fun, they are cute, and they serve their purpose. I dropped them off to her on Tuesday when I drove up to Boulder to hang with her and meet the new little man. She gave birth to him about 36 hours after I left for Chicago, so it was awesome to finally get to see the little nugget.

I followed that excursion up with having an amazing sister night. We hung out, snacked, kvetched, and caught up. I think it’s the longest stretch I’ve gone without seeing them in over a decade! I did get to see Norah at Thanksgiving, but even then, a month is still a while for us to go. I loved hearing how optimistic they were about the coming year and where their lives are taking them. They’re always such an inspiration to be around; I’m truly thankful for sisters like them.

It’s a good thing I fit them in at the beginning of the week, because I woke up Wednesday feeling like absolute hell. I caught the flu/head/chest cold thing that was going around Colorado and was down for the count. About the only thing productive I did was make my new favorite breakfast concoction, Huevos Benedictos. It consists of an English Muffin, bacon, egg, tomato (preferably a dark, meaty type like Black Krim), green chili, and mixed greens. That easy! It was meal number 3 out of 5 that I had green chili this week, and I enjoyed every single one of them.

I spent the rest of the week recovering, but was able to catch up with a couple girlfriends over the weekend, which was a nice way to wrap things up. I walked through the door to the apartment around 7:30 on Sunday night, ready to face the world, reality, and a whole lot of new code come Monday morning.
